Sneaking up on Puzzle & Dragons, Quiz RPG hits 17 million users in Japan

Colopl's once quiet flagship Quiz RPGhas just passed the 17 million user mark in Japan, meaning around 13 percent of the island nation's population are currently taking on the title.

Quiz RPG: The World of Mystic Wiz sat at roughly 3 million downloads in August 2013, before a TV commercial campaign boosted it up to 8 million users at the start of October.

By the end of November, Quiz RPG boasted 14 million players in Japan - adding roughly a million users every 7-10 days.

This rate held steady over the holidays, and Quiz RPG crested north of 17 million players on 1 January.

If Quiz RPG's growth continues at its current pace, it could conceivably close in on GungHo's playerbase of 22 million for  Puzzle & Dragons by the end of February.

Due to the explosive growth of Quiz RPG, it's not entirely surprising that Colopl's current market cap is $3.4 billion - which places it ahead of Zynga, DeNA, and GREE.

While impressive, this is still far behind rival GungHo's current market cap of $8.09 billion.

The gap between market caps might close soon, however, as Colopl announced a partnership with Glu Mobile in the middle of December that will help Colopl bring its games to markets outside of Japan.
