The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle found success in Asia after PGC Helsinki

PGC Helsinki ticket opens door to Asia for UK studio Rumpus Entertainment

Attending a Pocket Gamer Connects conference proved particularly profitable for one developer.

The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle is a point and click adventure game with a premium price tag.

Created by UK developer Rumpus Animation, the studio’s creative director Seb Burnett attended Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2014.

We call it "connects" for a reason

Off the back of a meeting with a representative of Asian publisher Chorus Worldwide, Rumpus forged a partnership to localize the game in Eastern markets.

Now, Burnett says that “thanks to Pocket Gamer, Bertram is now being featured on the app stores in China, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

“Chorus Worldwide have localized the game and contacted the necessary press and PR in Asia to make this happen.

“I’d never have had this opportunity if it wasn’t for meeting Shin at PGC in Helsinki last year so thank you all very much!”

The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle is nothing if not quirky

Localisation is a growing issue in mobile games. According to the CEO of Chorus Worldwide, Shintaro Kanaoya, Japan was the largest app market in the world in 2013.

“Over Over $5.5bn was spent on just games in the App and Play Stores during 2013, accounting for nearly one third of the global games spend in app stores, and a 78 per cent increase year-over-year .”

The only two markets Bertram was not featured on were Korea and Singapore, with the game having not been localised for the former.

Now Burnett says that off the back of the downloads Rumpus will be working to finish off the second episode in the series as soon as possible.

Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2015 will be taking place next week, so stay tuned to Pocket Gamer and Pocket Gamer.biz for all the latest updates.
