As part of Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco 2015, Andrew Walker, a partner at GameFounders, gave a talk on why his company is accelerating growth in Southeast Asia.
His main reason was the estimates of between 25 to 50% compound annual growth, as well as predictions that "the market will double by 2017."
The talent pool is there
Walker said that "the talent pool is there", but companies are currently only experienced in working on branded IP, and their design abilities aren't yet good enough to launch a successful, original IP.
But it's important to get into the region early, as "no one reads these figures and doesn't take action," so soon the market will be inundated and the opportunity to expand will diminish.
