With profits down 36%, Nintendo's second 'high profile character' mobile game becomes even more vital

Nintendo has released its Q3 financial report for the three months ending 31 December 2015, which reports a 36% fall in net profits, to around $240 million (29 billion yen).

Looking forward, however, some progress has been made on the launch of Nintendo's first mobile title, Miitomo.

Pre-registration is set to begin on 17 February, according to Nintendo.

The game will then launch in March, alongside Nintendo's new reward system, My Nintendo, which offers rewards to players for interacting with Nintendo products.

Looking ahead, Financial Times also reported that Nintendo president, Tatsumi Kimishima, claimed the company was "carrying out research into virtual reality", and called VR an "interesting technology".

Additionally, the Wall Street Journal reported that Nintendo has claimed that the second mobile game in its partnership with DeNA will feature "one of the company's best-known characters", but declined to provide any further comment.
