The App Store in India is featuring a range of Indian-developed games to celebrate the upcoming Indian Independence Day on 15 August.
There is also a series of massive discounts to celebrate, with some games dropping to Rs. 10 - worth a mere $0.15.
These include The Light Inside Us, BLUK (which has also launched early in India to celebrate the occasion), Blyss, Wordifly, and Stay, Mum - four of which are developed by members of our Indian Mavens group.
No excuse
The Indian market is not traditionally a major source of revenue, especially for those developing premium titles.
The dual barriers of low credit card penetration and little intent to pay are a key part of this problem.
Indian indies are hoping that this will inspire more of the country's gamers to give their apps a chance.
"Sometimes we feel that Rs. 200 is just too much for a mobile game," Ankush Madad, of Blyss developer Dropout Games, writes in a Facebook post.
"This Independence week, you don't get to use that excuse!"
Chirag Chopra, Founder of Stay, Mum developer Lucid Labs, adds: "If you still think the price is high, maybe you should have never bought that expensive iPhone."
