Pokemon GO aiming for release in China, says Pokemon Company's CEO

The Pokemon Company's CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has confirmed that the studio is looking to bring Pokemon GO to China. Ishihara stated that he wanted to expand the game to the market, but that issues regarding maps still need to be resolved. Pokemon GO is built on Google Maps, which is limited in China and South Korea, therefore making the game unsuitable for playing in those regions.

One-third of Japan's 127 million population has downloaded Puzzle & Dragons

GungHo's mega-hit Puzzle & Dragons has been downloaded 43 million times in Japan as of September 11th. That’s according to Tokyo-based Kantan Games CEO Serkan Toto, who also pointed out that the population of Japan is 127 million. This means that the number of downloads in the country alone is almost a third of the total population of Japan. GungHo’s last official figures from May 2016 revealed the game had reached 41 million downloads in Japan.

Supercell acquires 51% of Badland developer Frogmind as the two studios enter a long-term partnership

Supercell has acquired 51% of Helsinki-based Badland developer Frogmind as the companies enter into a "long-term partnership". It’s the first investment the developer has made in another studio, and follows Tencent’s own majority purchase of Supercell. Frogmind will continue to act as an independent studio from Supercell, with full creative control over its products, which it will continue to self-publish. Frogmind will use the Supercell's backing and expertise to fund and advise on its next three games that are currently in development.

Space Ape Games UA Associate Nasrin Chou has outlined the key differences between the China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan markets. The Japanese market meanwhile has a high ARPU but is typically a closed environment to external developers.

Nintendo NX production estimated at up to 10 million units per year

Nintendo aims to manufacture between 9.5 million to 10 million Nintendo NX consoles per year, according to a report. Industry sources speaking to DigiTimes have claimed Nintendo has partnered with Foxconn for a trial production of its upcoming NX hardware. Foxconn is said to be the largest original equipment manufacturer for the Nintendo NX. Japan-based Misumi Electronics, which seems to focus on creating cameras and microphones, and Hosiden are also involved in production.
