Unity wants to make publishing mobile games in China easier for developers with Xiaomi partnership

Unity has revealed a new partnership with China-based Android device manufacturer Xiaomi to help developers release their games in the region. As part of the deal, Xiaomi will assist developers in China's licensing process. It will also allow developers to launch their apps on Xiaomi's app store. The partnership is beneficial for Unity too, as Unity Ads is now the only third-party ad network authorised within the Xiaomi network.

Puzzle & Dragons publisher GungHo switches to global development approach as profits fall by 43.4%

GungHo Online Entertainment has released its financials for its Q3 FY16 for the three months ending September 30th 2016. It posted revenues of $246.7 million, down 29.6% year-on-year. Its profits also decreased to $93.4 million, down 43.4% year-on-year. Looking ahead, the publisher said that it will be changing its development policy with an eye to reaching the global market more quickly.

Sega eyes other Asia markets as Japanese mobile market saturates and game dev costs rise

Sega has released its results for H2 FY16 for the six months ending September 30th 2016. The company reported overall revenues of $1.6 billion, up 9.9% from the year prior, while profits were also up to $235 million. With growth in the Japanese market slowing, Sega expects most of its mobile gaming business growth to come from the Asia market outside of Japan.

Smartphone maker Xiaomi launches $29 VR headset Mi VR in China

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has launched its latest Mi VR HMD in China for $29. The new headset was announced last week at Xiaomi's Mi Product Launch event and is the company's second headset following the Mi VR Play. The headset boasts "ultra-low" 16ms latency and a motion sensor which is 16 times more sensitive than the previous model.

Nintendo undecided on whether or not to release Super Mario Run in China

Super Mario Run may not be released in China despite increasing its number of launch countries to 150. In a Q&A with Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima, the Nintendo head said that the company has not currently decided on whether the game will make its way to China, which has already garnered more than 20 million pre-registrations on the App Store.
