CyberAgent sales hit $2.4 billion but profits are still in a slump

CyberAgent has released its financials for its Q3 FY17 for the nine months ending June 30th 2017.

It posted revenues of $2.4 billion for the period, up 19.7% year-on-year. However, profits fell drastically by 75.5% year-on-year to $27 million.

Looking specifically at its games business, CyberAgent saw revenues of $932.8 million, up 18.1% year-on-year. Operating income for the segment fell 11.7% year-on-year to $190.8 million.

Same old story

CyberAgent didn't provide much more detail about its games business' performance. It stated simply that a new hit was released, while other games remained strong.

If this line seems familiar, it's because the company said the exact same thing in its H1 FY17 financials. The "new hit" is assumed to be BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!.

As for why its profits have taken such a hit, CyberAgent pointed to its investments in its video business. The investments are being made to ensure mid-term and long-term success for the future.
