Konami’s portfolio of mobile games helped propel the entertainment company to record-breaking profits of $413 million for the fiscal year ending March 31st.
Profits grew 24.3 per cent year-on-year and in doing so broke the previous record set in 2012.
Konami’s revenues also grew 4.2 per cent year-on-year to $ 2.19 billion. Of that, $1.1 billion came from games, which itself saw an increase of 13.9 per cent year-on-year.
Going mobile
Mobile titles were singled out as doing particularly well for Konami.Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links received mention for surpassing 65 million downloads and driving success in the global market, along with Pro Evolution Soccer 2018.
Mobile games Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu and Professional Baseball Spirits A were also said to be performing well in the Japanese domestic market.
According to Newzoo, Konami now generates more than four times as much on mobile than it does on console.
