Chart of the Week: The graph that's killing Nintendo

As I've argued recently, Nintendo finds itself in a much more complex situation than many people consider.

It's not that it's not a mobile company.

Its bigger philosophical problem is that it's not a free-to-play games company.

Nevertheless, as a simple reading of a simple graph from App Annie and IDC demonstrates, it's the rise of the mobile games industry that's the sharpest stick being poked into Satoru Iwata's eye.

So, although the main focus on Nintendo may be the failure of the Wii-U, even its core handheld gaming business is on a downer compared to the growth of the 'gaming' platforms everyone now has in their pockets.
