New Publishing License policy for games in China

In China, the government has long been making a strict supervision of the issuance of domestic electronic publications, which increases the publishing cost but intensifies the protection effort of copyright owners, thus avoiding a lot of copyright disputes, to a certain extent.

On June 2, 2016, Chinese State Administration of Press and Publication issued a "Notice on the Administration of Mobile Game Publishing Services".

This clearly states that an "electronic publication must be subject to the application for Publishing License prior to their launch in China".

The latest publishing license policy is to further strengthen the stringency of regulation.

The full name of a Publishing License is the game copyright number or ISBN number, commonly known as: electronic publication number, which is subject to the approval of the provincial (municipal) Press and Publication Administration and the General Administration of Press and Publication, with the usual approval time of 60-90 working days. (CP product preparations for submission for approval and the normal handling state of government departments will affect the time of approval).

Foreign companies and joint venture companies have no eligibility for a publishing license application.

In terms of the application for publishing license, there are strict qualification requirements for applicant units.
