Real-money skill-based gaming platform Skillz has announced $6 million financing round, taking its total funding to $13.3 million.

A mixture of equity and debt money, the round was led by Atlas Venture.

The money will be used to fund an aggressive user acquisition program for games using the Skillz platform.

As highlighted in our recent interview with CEO Andrew Paradise, Skillz currently operates more than 50,000 competitions daily in mobile games, paying out more than $10,000 daily to players in tournament prizes.

"As eSports continue their meteoric rise in popularity, Skillz is delivering a competition system to the industry on the world's most accessible platform: mobile," commended Paradise.

"This latest round of funding brings our industry one step closer to the inevitable future of a tournament system in every mobile game."

"eSports are quickly becoming big business," said Jeff Fagnan, Partner at Atlas Venture.

"What's most exciting about Skillz is that they are completely transforming the industry by making competitions available on mobile, tapping into an enormous, previously untouched market."
