Backend as a Service provider Clan of the Cloud rebrands as XtraLife, gives devs open source access

Backend as a Service startup Clan of the Cloud has rebranded as XtraLife.

The Montpellier-based firm was founded in 2011 by French tech industry veterans, with the ambition to offer a secure and scalable Backend as a Service with the power to reduce development time by up to 25%.

The XtraLife rebrand is about more than just a name, though, as the company is now offering Backend as a Service to game developers as an open-source solution, complete with a free hosting option.

Now, developers will have access to XtraLife's code, which has been under development for the past five years from the Clan of the Cloud team.

This rebrand and new direction for XtraLife will be led by new CEO, Wandrille Pruvot.

“Open Source [Solutions] (OSS) for game development is starting to mirror the hot-bed of creativity already known to drive web development innovation," he said.

"It made complete sense that we offer XtraLife as an OSS in a climate where developers are seeking better transparency or even supplier longevity in the BaaS market."

"Those developers who want to have greater control and ownership to experiment, evolve quickly and to their own unique specs."
