PlayJam and Marmalade vets join to launch new UK publisher PlayStack

PlayStack, a new London-based publisher boasting an experienced team, has been announced at Gamescom 2016.

Led by CEO and Founder Harvey Elliott, previously General Manager at EA and CEO of Marmalade, PlayStack's core aim is to discover new talent across all platforms.

Other senior executives include current PlayJam CEO Jasper Smith, who's PlayStack chairman, and COO Steve Horne, who was previously COO at PlayJam.

Other members of the team worked with Elliot at development tools outfit Marmalade.

First signing

As well as usual publishing services such as financing and development, PlayStack also offers what it labels "light-overhead yet powerful technologies that underpin community and engagement".

“The closure of so many leading studios means that a huge amount of creativity is at risk of going to waste, and puts us as players at risk of missing out of some of the defining experiences of the industry,” says Elliott.

“By centering ourselves in the UK we will harness a rich pool of developer talent whilst creating an organisation capable of building global success for new IP.”

PlayStack also announced that it has signed up Stratosphere Games' upcoming Nemesis: Air Combat to be its first title, launching in late 2016.

Stratosphere Games, based in Berlin, is a studio focused on high-end mobile games and formed of industry veterans from the likes of Splash Damage, Nexon, and Rocksteady.

Features Editor

Matt is really bad at playing games, but hopefully a little better at writing about them. He's Features Editor for PocketGamer.biz, and has also written for lesser publications such as IGN, VICE, and Paste Magazine.
