Pangea Software clocks the 1 million App Store downloads mark

"The App Store is off to a solid start with thousands of successful game apps launched since July," says Brian Greenstone, president and CEO of Pangea Software. "With so much competition, I'm honoured that consumers have chosen to make our titles the top sellers for the iPhone and iPod touch."

The Texas-based indie developer has been running for over 20 years, but it seems as though it's one of the companies that's really found its stride alongside the iPhone.

And it's clocked up that impressive downloads figure from just five individual iPhone titles – Cro-Mag Rally, Billy Frontier, Bugdom 2, Nanosaur 2: Hatchling and Enigmo.

The latter was named Showcase Winner at the Austin Independent Games Festival and voted Best iPhone Game at Apple's 2008 World Wide Developer Conference, and (most impressively of all) Pangea's iPhone games can also boast a couple of Silver Awards from Pocket Gamer.

The company's been onboard the iPhone train since the beginning, so it'll be exciting to see what it cooks up in 2009.

"Our games are well on track to outperform our expectations for the year," Greenstone concludes.

Those expectations are high, considering the Pangea titles we – and 999,992 others – have already enjoyed, but we're looking forward to seeing what happens. Congratulations, chaps!

Yes. Spanner's his real name. And, yes, he's heard that joke before.
