Device claims PlayStation mantle

iPad owners prefer their tablet over consoles for gaming
A survey of more than 1,000 UK iPad owners has revealed most prefer to play games on the device rather than on more traditional outlets such as home consoles or PC.

Indeed, the survey – which was carried out by phone by Cooper Murphy Webb – claims 37 percent of all those questioned said iPad was now their preferred device for gaming.

That compares to 35 percent who opted for console, 22 percent for laptop or computer and 6 percent for mobile phones.

However, one caveat is that, while 100 percent of those surveyed were guaranteed iPad owners, just how many of them also own game consoles wasn't defined.

As such, there's a chance that iPad may have been their default answer, given it could be the one and only gaming device they own.

Nonetheless, such a result would suggest iPad appeals more to the casual gamer than the console owner, with games acting as a added bonus rather than the primary reason for purchase.

Other results from the survey were that 43 percent used their iPad more than 10 hours a week, only 5 percent take their iPad with them everywhere, and 38 percent said it was their preferred device for web browsing.
