Not content with its buyout by Japanese social gaming powerhouse GREE, OpenFeint's operations in Asia are set to expand with the launch of a localised version of its network.
The9 Game Zone, which has been developed in partnership with The9, offers developers a route to market in what's increasingly being billed as one of the most lucrative territories in the world: China.
Open to all
"We're thrilled to partner with The9 in China," said OpenFeint CEO Jason Citron.
"With the launch of The9 Game Zone in China, OpenFeint is opening a great global distribution channel for game developers."
Like OpenFeint before it, games utilising The9 Game Zone will implement the platform's SDK, allowing them to build in the kind of social features the company has made its signature.
Studios will also be encouraged to monetise their apps with display ads and the sale of virtual goods.
Game on
Both OpenFeint and The9 have previously worked together on a venture designed to encourage ports to Android.
Utilising The9's $100 million strong Fund9, the two companies looked to fund developers looking to port their titles to Google's OS.
The Chinese firm also invested $4 million in OpenFeint back in July 2010.
"With the launch of The9 Game Zone powered by OpenFeint, this leading mobile social game platform is now officially introduced to Chinese users and developers," added The9 chairman and CEO Mr. Jun Zhu.
"I hope that more developers will have co-operation with the platform and mobile game users can experience the fun in making friends through playing games and competition at The9 Game Zone."
