Wooga to kick-start San Francisco social talent search at GDC 2012

Perfect place to build on growth

Wooga to kick-start San Francisco social talent search at GDC 2012
Having enjoyed a 2011 that saw the firm making its first move on mobile, social giant Wooga has revealed it is to use this year's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco as a forum for picking up new talent.

CEO Jens Begemann is set to take to the stage during the event itself to host a session titled 'Growing Out of Europe', but the firm has claimed it will also be scouting out GDC 2012 attendees for new social stars.

Talent trip

This is no whimsical talent hunt, however.

Wooga is to offer plane tickets to the most promising candidates it encounters at the conference, enabling those selected to fly to Berlin and experience the company in action.

"2011 was an exciting year for Wooga where we saw our first successful jump to mobile that brought a truly social games experience to that platform," said Begemann of the venture.

"Our focus now is to bring talent from all over the world to Berlin, and join our international team of employees. GDC is the perfect place to find those people and help us make the best, most social games in the world."

A number game

Wooga saw users jump 185 percent across its social games during the course of 2011, with the firm targeting continued growth in 2012 – both in terms of its presence on mobile markets, and the number of staff it employs.

The latest stats published by the firm designed to tie in with Begemann's session (see below) reveal it currently boasts more than 150 employees across 28 countries.

Wooga revealed back in February that it's looking to take on an additional 100 employees during 2012, with GDC likely to act as an early catalyst.
