Making friends: Gamescom announces Nordic partnership

Organisers behind this year's Gamescom have revealed that the Nordic region will be the official partner of this year's extravaganza when it rolls into Cologne this August.

The region, which consists of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, will be represented in Cologne by the Nordic Games Institute.

According to organisers, the region was chosen because, with over 700 companies, who employ over 7000 staff members, the games industry is the fastest growing industry in the Nordic territories.

Working together

Dr. Maximillian Schenk, executive director of the BUI, has praised the partnership, explaining that winning over the Nordic industry was a ’great success’.

“The Nordic region has one of the most impressive games industries, not just in Europe, but all over the world,” said Schenk.

“Whenever we talk about how to do games right, in Germany, everyone is talking about the Nordic region.

"we are delighted to be the partner region of Gamescom 2014," added KooPee Hiltunen, executive board member of the Nordic Game Institute.

"The partnership offers an excelent platform for our developers, while it is also a strategically important move for Gamescom. It's a true win-win situation."
