EA Mobile says audience for its mobile sports games is up 250%

Depending on your point of view, EA Mobile just posted some really good, or some okay financial figures.

Compared to the three months ending 30 September 2013, this year's quarterly sales were up an impressive 64 percent.

Compared to the consecutive three month period ending 30 June 2014, however, sales were exactly the same.

(Technically that's still okay, given that those sales were a record for the company.)

However, EA Mobile's EVP Frank Gibeau didn't want to talk sales numbers. He wanted to talk player numbers.

In a blogpost, he was very keen to highlight the growing reach of EA Mobile's sports games.

In the game

Of the over 155 million players that games such as The Simpsons: Tapped Out and Real Racing 3 are engaging with on a monthly basis, EA's sports games have a sizeable share of 40 million players.

Gibeau said in since its launch less than a month ago, FIFA 15 Ultimate Team has generated more than 100 million hours of gameplay via 530 million matches.

Meanwhile, compared to the same post-launch period in 2013, Madden NFL Mobile has been downloaded twice as many times on Android in 2014.

In this manner, the 40 million monthly active players on EA's sports game is a rise of 250 percent in 12 months.
