Following the closure of its Vancouver office, GREE refocuses international efforts

A new broom must be prepared to sweep the floor, and that's the situation with GREE International's COO Andrew Sheppard.

Joining from Kabam ten months ago, he's been slowly transforming the North American outfit, which like its Japanese parent, has been somewhat troubled in recent times.

But today the pace of that change itself changed with the news that GREE was closing its Vancouver , Canada, development office with immediate effect, also discontinuing all its games.

The why

In a blogpost explaining the situation, Sheppard said the move was a logical result - a tough decision - of GREE International's lack of focus.

"After evaluating market conditions and the needs of our current and future games, we have decided to focus our talent on building new gameplay within our biggest franchises and on elevating our commitment to service excellence," he commented.

The result of the move is that the company will consolidate operations around its San Francisco HQ, while also handling European marketing and live events locally in the region.
