Mojang prepares to pull Scrolls plug in 2016

Minecraft developer slims down IP portfolio

Mojang prepares to pull Scrolls plug in 2016

Mojang has hinted that its card-battler game Scrolls could be shut down in July 2016.

The Minecraft developer confirmed in a blog post that Scrolls will not receive any more features, cards, or content this year.

Winding down

"Tens of thousands of players battled daily,” the post reads, “and many of them remain active today. Unfortunately, the game has reached a point where it can no longer sustain continuous development".

The game was announced in 2011, but didn’t launch on Android until 2014 due to a rigorous period of beta testing. An iOS release was on the horizon, but those plans seem to have now been axed.

The loss of Scrolls from Mojang’s portfolio means that the company’s only non-Minecraft IP is now a PC and Xbox side-scroller called Cobalt.

Meanwhile, Mojang says it will “keep a close eye on game balance,” and will continue to reinvest any Scrolls' profits back into the game.
