Chhota Bheem Race is the first Indian game to top local Google Play charts

Power of local brand propels Nazara and June to the top

Chhota Bheem Race is the first Indian game to top local Google Play charts

Chhota Bheem Race, a competitive multiplayer auto-runner from Nazara Technologies and June Software, has beaten out international competition to top Google Play's top free games download chart in India.

This is the first time an Indian developer has achieved this, leveraging the enormous success of the Chhota Bheem cartoon series to temporarily surpass the likes of Candy Crush Saga and Subway Surfers.

In our recent interview with Nazara CEO Manish Agarwal, he stated that bringing the "cultural nuances" would spell success in India.

Understandably, he now feels vindicated.

“These are the early signs suggesting that local content and local IP will be the way forward for India in mobile gaming, like what has been seen in Indian TV and movies," said Agarwal.

"I would like to congratulate the teams at Nazara, Green Gold (IP licensor for Chhota Bheem) and June Software (the game's developers). We, at Nazara, will continue to keep the flag of local content flying in the Indian mobile gaming space."

Nazara's next big project is a culturalised release of Cut the Rope to be worked on in conjunction with ZeptoLab, and the success of Chhota Bheem Race should inspire confidence in its India-first approach.

You can download Chhota Bheem Race for free on Google Play.
