Supercell valued at $5 billion as SoftBank rumoured to be selling shares

Back in June 2015, Japanese internet outfit SoftBank brought its overall stake in Finnish developer Supercell to 73.2% from 50.5%.

Less than a year later, and there's now reports saying that SoftBank is looking to sell some or all of its stake, in a sale that could value the entire developer at $5 billion.

Look East

Supercell is supposedly in talks with strategic buyers based in China, although there has been no official confirmation or statement from either SoftBank or Supercell, and it's entirely possible that SoftBank won't sell its share anyway.

Anyone looking to buy the stake in the company would no doubt benefit greatly – its latest game, Clash Royale, has helped boost sales to the point that the developer is on track to make $3 billion in 2016.

And the company was already in a healthy state before the game launched, having posted a 37% increase in sales year-on-year in 2015.
