Game Center isn't dead; just "streamlined"

Further to news that the Game Center app is one of the casualties of Apple's iOS 10 services rethink comes some clarification.

Game Center - the iOS-only social gaming network - isn't dead, just on extended life support.

Ex-Parrot?

There's a session on the service as part of the WWDC 2016 conference on Friday.

Titled 'What's New in Game Center', it's described as highlighting "new capabilities for persistent game sessions and how they provide added flexibility for single-player, real-time multiplayer, and turn-based games".

Perhaps more significant is Apple's own description of the removal of the Game Center app from the iOS homepage as "streamlining" Game Center.

"Learn about changes that streamline Game Center and a new way to send game invites and join multiplayer matches," the session description also states.
