Mobile games developers on the App Store have earned more than $50 billion since the marketplace was launched, according to Apple.

July 2016 was a record breaking month for the App Store. It had the highest-ever monthly billings and money paid to developers on the marketplace.

Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted his congratulations to developers on their “success and such inspired creativity”.

Rapid growth

In January 2016 Apple announced it had brought in nearly $40 billion in revenue for developers since 2008.

Half of that was generated in 2015 alone, and 2016 looks like it will be a similarly big year for Apple and App Store developers.
