NPD Group acquires EEDAR to expand games market research

The NPD Group is set to acquire market research and data analysis firm EEDAR for an undisclosed sum.

The purchase will give NPD's clients access to EEDAR's analytics and data for its 150,000-strong library of metadata for games across mobile, PC, console and online titles.

The NPD Group already offers retail sales data and consumer insight on the video games market.

Big data

"A fundamental goal of EEDAR has always been to improve the quality and speed by which business decisions could be made for game developers and publishers," said EEDAR CEO Robert Liguori.

"NPD shares this philosophy, and the joining of our resources and passion for this sector will ensure the industry has access to the information it needs as it advances into new platforms and business models."

The deal is expected to close in October 2016. EEDAR will continue to operate under its own name, but as EEDAR, an NPD Group Company.
