Studio restructuring leaves some out of work

Sony cuts "a substantial number" of jobs at London Studio as it wraps up VR project

Sony will be restructuring its London Studio causing a substantial number of job losses at the studio.

The redundancies come as the London Studio wraps up work on London Heist, a PSVR exclusive title, and looks ahead to working on new projects.

The London Studio had previously worked on several experimental works for Sony, including Wonderbook and R&D for the Eyetoy peripheral.

Shuffling

Speaking to GI.biz, Sony said, "London Studio have done a great job in leading the way in VR development, and as their first project nears completion it is time to plan for the next VR project.

"The team will take all their learnings and experience as they move forward, however in order to achieve its ambitious goals, the Studio will need to restructure around the needs of the new projects."

"Unfortunately, there will be a number of compulsory redundancies within the London Studio. We accept that this will mean that we risk losing high calibre staff whose projects have reached completion and where possible, we will try to reallocate people to new projects currently being nurtured."

Sony could well relocate some of this staff to its new Manchester-based VR studio, which is currently hiring for a number of senior roles.
