Huyai Brothers invests $288 million in major Chinese eSports developer Hero Entertainment
Chinese entertainment company Huyai Brothers Media Corporation has acquired a 20% stake in mobile online games and eSports company Hero Entertainment for $288 million. The purchase values Hero Entertainment at around $1.4 billion, 19 times Hero Entertainment's estimated net profit for 2016. As part of the investment, Hero Entertainment has committed to a profit goal of $74.9 million in 2016, with its targets increasing by 20% each year.

Mobile advertising platform Leadbolt opens Bangalore office
Sydney-headquartered mobile ad firm Leadbolt has opened a new office in Bangalore. Leadbolt serves more than 10 billion ads a month, in over 165 countries and across 65,000 mobile apps - many of which are games. The company, which also has offices in Los Angeles and Beijing, feels that the sheer volume of mobile devices in India makes it a significant territory.

Razer establishes $30 million investment arm zVentures for VR, Android games and other tech ventures
Hardware manufacturer Razer has launched a new $30 million investment fund called zVentures. The fund will invest money into a variety of companies, with a particular interest in AR/VR, eSports, software, analytics and the Internet of Things. $5 million of the fund is specifically set aside for VR-related companies, with another $5 million kept aside for Android game publishing. As well as providing investment, Razer will give studios their own expertise in supply chain management, sales and marketing, and raising capital in order to help the fledgling companies out.

World of Warcraft lead designer Rob Pardo raises $25 million for new start-up Bonfire Studios
Lead designer of World of Warcraft Rob Pardo has set up a new games studio called Bonfire Studios. The developer has received $25 million in investment from Silicon Valley VC Andreessen Horowitz and Riot Games, the Tencent-owned developer of League of Legends. Bonfire Studios also completed an earlier investment round for an undisclosed amount. This included investment from Unity CEO John Riccitiello.

Heroes of Incredible Tales achieves five million downloads outside of South Korea
Nexon's RPG Heroes of Incredible Tales has achieved five million downloads outside of its native South Korea across both iOS and Android. The game was initially launched in South Korea on 18 November 2015 where it achieved five million downloads in the region alone. It was released globally on 7 July 2016.
