Pokemon GO generated $204 million of August 2016's $3 billion mobile game revenues

Pokemon GOwas the highest grossing mobile game worldwide in August 2016 having generated $204 million in revenue in that month alone.

This is based on SuperData Research's monthly worldwide digital games market report. It shows that Mixi's Monster Strike and MZ's Mobile Strike were the second and third highest grossing games respectively.

Supercell's Clash of Clans found its way to fourth place, while MZ's other title Game of War took fifth place.

The other games in the top ten, in order, were

  • Fantasy Westward Journey
  • Puzzle & Dragons
  • Clash Royale
  • Candy Crush Saga
  • Clash of Kings

SuperData Research also claimed that the overall revenue for the month in mobile games was $3.04 billion, a 16% increase year-on-year.

It stated that this was largely driven by Pokemon GO, despite the fact it has lost a number of its users and has started dropping in app store rankings.

Pokemon GO's numbers have long been impressive, with the game reportedly making $16 million a day at its peak.

It also saw three times as many users signing up to play the game when it launched in Japan than it did in the US, and far surpassed expected player traffic in just 15 minutes after its initial launch in New Zealand and Australia.
