Chinese investor splashes $1.4 billion on mobile marketing platform AppLovin
Chinese investment firm Orient Hontai Capital has acquired a majority stake in mobile ad company AppLovin for $1.4 billion. AppLovin plans to further scale its business globally following the deal by expanding into new markets, such as China. The mobile marketing company will continue to operate out of its HQ in Palo Alto California. Founding team members Tariq Ahmed, Omer Hasan, Mark Rosner, Robert Russo, Basil Shikin and Rafael Vivas are expected to stay on at the firm.

South Korea games publisher Netmarble seeks approval for multi-billion dollar IPO
One of South Korea’s biggest mobile games companies Netmarble has applied for preliminary approval to the Korea Exchange to launch its long-awaited initial public offering. According to the Korean Herald, the company’s market value is priced at around $9 billion. It is anticipated the company will go public in late 2016 or early 2017. The move will likely see the company increase activity in studio acquisitions and investment.

Apple's new research centre in China will be a $45 million facility focused entirely on developing new technology. The Zhongguancun Science Park Administrative Committee, the landlord of the site where Apple will build its office, claims the research centre will be working on audio and video equipment, as well as computer hardware. It also revealed that the new site will have 500 employees.

New Chinese games company and Jagex owner Zhongji Holding eyes acquisitions
UK developer Jagex has taken a "pivotal role" in the creation of a new publicly-listed Chinese game company called Zhongji Holding. Jagex was acquired earlier in the year by Chinese investors at Hongtou, of which Zhongji Holding now owns a 51% stake in. Zhongji Holding will purchase the remaining 49% of Hongtou during the next 12 months. The Chinese company has stated its intention to commit significant resources to investing in further acquisitions of games companies across the globe.

Blizzard and NetEase extend mainland China games partnership to January 2020
Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase have extended their online games partnership for mainland China up to January 2020. The partnership covers all of Blizzard's games, including cross-platform CCG Hearthstone, and all future updates and content additions to the games. The collaboration has NetEase bringing Blizzard's games and updates to mainland China in line with their release elsewhere in the world.
