China’s iOS App Store revenues hit record $1.7 billion in Q3 2016 as staggering growth continues

The Chinese iOS App Store earned a record $1.7 billion in revenue between July 1st to September 30th.

A new report from App Annie shows the marketplace made more than the US and Japan App Stores, which both brought in less than $1.5 billion.

Games driving growth

In Q3 2016 Chinese consumers spent more than five times the amount they had previously spent two years prior on the App Store.

App Annie also forecasts China to drive the largest absolute revenue growth for any country by 2020.
Games are the biggest driver of China’s astonishing growth after making up 75% of all App Store revenue.

That’s despite 75% of apps on the store being made up of non-gaming apps.

China is now the largest market in the world for the iOS App Store and its revenue growth rates are up on the US by more than 15%.
