Does it even need it at this point?

Four months after launch, Pokemon GO adds Daily Bonuses to boost retention

Niantic Labs has introduced Daily Bonuses to its mega-hit Pokemon GO in an effort to maintain player retention.

Players will now earn a bonus for catching a Pokemon and visiting a PokeStop at least once a day. Further bonuses will be awarded should players do this for seven days continuously.

It's somewhat surprising that Niantic is adding in daily rewards – generally considered a staple feature of any free-to-play game – several months into the game's lifecycle.

Still going strong

It also only recently ran its first ever live event to coincide with Halloween. With only minor alterations made to the game's live ops, it saw revenues jump 133% for four days.

A lot has been made of Pokemon GO's enormous loss of players since it launched, although research has shown that its retention rate is on par with major titles such as Clash of Clans.

Even with players churning, the game still generates a huge amount of revenue. It managed to bring in $600 million in revenue faster than King's Candy Crush Saga.
