Unity 5.5 opens HoloLens support and smooths out codeless IAP feature

Engine firm wokring on making it easier for developers to publish in China

Unity 5.5 opens HoloLens support and smooths out codeless IAP feature

Unity has released version 5.5 of its game engine with full support for Microsoft’s augmented reality headset HoloLens.

The update also comes with a new codeless in-app purchase feature that makes it easier to port IAPs to multiple stores.

As well as support for the App Store, Google Play, Amazon, Samsung, Windows Store and Tizen Store, Unity IAP now supports Cloud Moolah and will soon support Xiaomi.

The latter is part of Unity’s new partnership with the Chinese mobile firm that will help Western developers release their games in China.

Particle effects

Other updates include a new Lights Module in the particle system to make particle effects cast light onto the surrounding environment, while a new Noise Module enables developers to apply turbulence to particle movement.

Splash screen tools meanwhile make it easier for users to add in their company, publisher and game logos as a splash screen when a game is launched.
