Mobile Strike's Super Bowl ad is the most watched ad on YouTube in 2016 with over 100 million views

Mobile Strike's Super Bowl commercial was the most viewed ad on YouTube in 2016.

The video hosting site shared its top ten most viewed ads for the last year. These are ads that people have chosen to watch, not ones that were included in other videos as pre-roll ads.

The Arnold Schwarzenegger-fronted Mobile Strike ad took the top spot with over 100 million views. It features the '80s movie star engaging in an explosive battle over his phone.

Supercell's Clash Royale had the fifth-most viewed ad for its TV ad "Theme Song", achieving over 37 million views in 2016.

Big money, big views

The only other gaming-related ad to place in the top ten was Pokemon's Super Bowl commercial, celebrating its 20th anniversary, which drew 25 million views in total.

It's worth noting that five of the top ten ads were all designed specifically to be shown during the Super Bowl. The sporting event is one of the most widely-viewed in the US and advertisers spend big money on the ads knowing that they will be seen.

MZ is known for its relentless advertising of both Game of War and Mobile Strike. It's currently working on a Final Fantasy game with Square Enix which could well follow the same pattern.
