Super Mario Run tops download charts in 49 countries and the top grossing rankings in eight

Nintendo's Super Mario Run was the top grossing app overall in eight countries on its launch day.

According to App Annie, the endless runner hit the top spot in Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico, and the United States.

It was also the second-highest grossing app overall in Bolivia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Italy, Luxembourg, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and the United Kingdom.

Super performance

It fared much better in the download rankings, with 49 overall top spots. It was released in 150 countries overall.

In its home country of Japan, Super Mario Run has topped the download charts, but is only 11th in the top grossing chart.

It's unlikely to hang around for long in the grossing charts where it faces competition from big-hitters like Monster Strike and Puzzle & Dragons.

Super Mario Run launched on iOS on December 15th as a free download with a $9.99 IAP to unlock all the game's content. It has been predicted to generation $71 million in revenue in its first month from 50 million downloads, a figure we've analysed by looking at past Mario game sales and other premium mobile titles.
