SMITE developer Hi-Rez Studios has unveiled a mobile adaptation of its PC MOBA titled SMITE Rivals.
The game is a three-lane CCG/MOBA that looks much like Supercell's Clash Royale. Players will collect cards, build decks and battle other players in real-time.
While Hi-Rez is known largely for its PC and console MOBA, SMITE Rivals is not its first mobile game. The studio released platforming game Jetpack Fighter in January 2016 on iOS and July 2016 on Android.
The right fit
"We didn't think our particular SMITE MOBA would translate well to mobile due primarily to the input controls and also required session length," said Hi-Rez COO Todd Harris at the time of Jetpack Fighter's release.
"The game genre should ideally be designed around the strengths of the platform instead of fighting against it. So for our first mobile title we developed a brand new IP designed around the strengths of mobile."
Interested parties can register their interest in the upcoming SMITE Rivals beta on the game's official website.
