Tapjoy finds out what mobile gamers think of themselves

Two-thirds of mobile game players don't see themselves as gamers

Over two-thirds of people who play mobile games do not consider themselves gamers even if they play them more than 10 times a week, according to Tapjoy.

The monetisation platform revealed the figures in its Changing Face of Mobile Games report. It surveyed 5,623 smartphone and tablet owners aged over 13 in September 2016 to gather its data.

63% of all respondents identified as female, vastly outnumbering the 37% of male-identified respondents. The largest age group was over 55s, followed by people aged between 25 and 34.

Not gamers

Tapjoy found that while 59% of women say they play games ten times or more a week, only 28% would consider themselves a gamer. "Millennials" were most likely to identify as gamers, with 44% of millennial respondents identifying as such.

In terms of time spent playing games, the survey found that 69% of respondents played games three to five times a day. 71% also stated that they spend over an hour playing games every day on average.

As for what games are being played, 59% of those who took part in the survey played puzzle games, with strategy and trivia games as the second and third-most popular genres. Only 8% said they had played "shooting" games.

Respondents also appeared to play mobile games primarily for relaxation. 70% claimed to play while watching TV, with 59% stating games made them feel relaxed while they play.
