Square Enix scores profits of $151 million but goes quiet on flagship mobile title Mobius Final Fantasy

Square Enix (TYO:9684) has released its financials for its Q3 FY17 for the nine months ending December 31st 2016.

It posted net sales of $1.7 billion, up 24.4% year-on-year. Profits were also 26% year-on-year to $151.6 million. This is also around an 188.8% increase quarter-on-quarter, up from $52.5 million.

Its Digital Entertainment segment, which includes its console, PC and mobile titles, saw sales of $1.3 billion, up 32.7% year-on-year.

Mobius' end

It did not break out its mobile sales, not even combined with browser game sales as in previous reports. It did highlight its key titles however, name-checking Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Hoshi no Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light.

Interestingly, it did not mention Mobius Final Fantasy, previously a flagship mobile title for the company. Brave Exvius meanwhile has been subject to high-profile collaborations with singer Ariana Grande following nine million downloads outside of Japan.

Looking ahead, Square Enix identified the continued growth of the mobile industry while the console market shrinks. It stated that its forecasted financial results are expected to largely fluctuate as it tries to keep up with the changing business environment.
