Pokemon GO scoops Best Mobile/Handheld Game at 17th GDC Awards

Pokemon GO has picked up the Best Mobile/Handheld Game award at the 17th annual Game Developer's Choice Awards at GDC 2017.

It beat Super Mario Run, Clash Royale, Reigns and Pokemon Sun/Moon on 3DS for the award. Honourable mentions were Mini Metro, Severed, Deus Ex: Go, Fire Emblem Fates, Imbroglio and Swap Sword.

Pokemon GO was also nominated for the Innovation Award, but lost to PC and console title No Man's Sky.

It also received a nomination for Best VR/AR Game award and an honorable mention in the Best Technology category, but lost to Job Simulator and Uncharted 4 respectively.

One of a kind

It was the only mobile game to receive an award, and only in a category dedicated to the format.

Multi-platform game 1979 Revolution: Black Friday received nominations in a number of categories in both the GDC and IGF awards, but failed to secure a win.

Pokemon GO also won the IMGA Grand Jury prize at the 13th IMGA Global ceremony. Clash Royale and Reigns also won awards at the same event.
