Apple celebrates indies with launch of 12 new games on the App Store between March 9th and 20th

Apple is celebrating indie games on the App Store with a 12 day long "We Heart Indie Games" section.

New games will be released over the next 12 days, including at the weekend. For example, Zach Gage's Typeshift is due out on Saturday, March 18th, as reported by TouchArcade.

Games on the App Store are typically launched on a Thursday as part of the App Store refresh. Games are then featured on the front page on the day, giving them a better chance of being discovered by players.

Premium quality

The company is also highlighting a select number of games on the front page of the App Store with brief descriptions detailing why they love them.

Those highlighted so far include Ustwo's Monument Valley, Supergiant Game's Transistor, Terry Cavanagh's Super Hexagon, Simogo's Device 6 and Capybara Games' Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP.

There appears to be a theme to the indie titles Apple is choosing, however, in that the majority of the games are premium. Tiny Tower developer NimbleBit's upcoming Bit City, due out on Monday, March 13th March, could buck this trend.
