Angry Birds Match launches worldwide after nine months in soft launch

Rovio has launched its latest game Angry Birds Match after over nine months of soft launch.

The game uses its Angry Birds characters and style, including characters introduced in The Angry Birds Movie, in a match-3 game. It is developed by Rovio's own internal Match Studio.

It was first soft-launched on November 11th 2016 in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden. It received 16 updates during this period.

What the fans want

‘"We are very excited to launch Angry Birds Match, the game that all fans of Angry Birds and The Hatchlings have been waiting for," said Heini Kaihu, Head of Match Studio at Rovio Entertainment.

"Angry Birds Match is a great example of the next generation puzzle games we think the audience wants to play, and what Rovio’s Match studio is striving for."

Rovio's revenues have been on the rise in recent months, thanks largely to midcore titles like Angry Birds Evolution and Battle Bay. The Angry Birds Movie also continues to bring in money over a year after it was first released.

A whole host of Rovio team members will be in attendance at Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki, including EVP of Games Wilhelm Taht. You can still get tickets to the event from the PGC Helsinki website.
