Mobile AR headset manufacturer Mira has closed a $1 million funding round to further development on its budget AR technology.
The funding round was led by Greylock Partners, Founders Fund Angel, and Macro Ventures. It brings the company's total funding to $2.5 million.
Mira's main piece of technology is its $99 AR headset called the Prism. It works with the iPhone 6 and up, and requires users to put their phone in the device to project experiences into the real world.
The action is controlled via a remote, much like Google's Daydream VR headsets. It also allows for shared AR experiences, with other users joining in through their smartphones to watch what the Prism user is doing.
Adding expertise
"The reception we've seen for the Prism headset and our vision for enabling developers to create premium, shared AR experiences has been overwhelming, and we are honored to add the expertise of Greylock Partners, Founders Fund Angel, and Macro Ventures to the fold," said Ben Taft, co-founder and CEO of Mira.
"We've already seen select developers build incredible experiences with our SDK, and we're eager to see what the wider community creates now that our software is more widely available."
The funding round comes after Apple launched its own AR experiences through ARKit in iOS 11. Developers are already developing entirely new experiences with the framework and releasing them to the public.
