Big Indie Pitch winners Splitter Critters and Hidden Folks named Apple's Games of the Year 2017

Two former Big Indie Pitch finalists have been ranked as the best games of 2017 by Apple on iPhone and iPad.

RAC7's Splitter Critters won the award for iPhone Game of the Year. It came second in our Big Indie Pitch at PG Connects Vancouver 2016, and won an Apple Design Award earlier in 2017.

Hidden Folks, from developers Adriaan de Jongh and Sylvain Tegroeg, took the iPad Game of the Year award. It won the Big Indie Pitch at GDC 2016, and came second in the Big Indie Awards held in November 2017. It is also nominated in the Best Mobile Game category at The Game Awards.

The big come up

"With its playful artwork, quaint style and kooky humour, playing it will always make you grin," wrote Apple on why Hidden Folks was chosen as its Game of the Year.

Apple also revealed that Super Mario Run was its top downloaded free game of the year, while Minecraft was the top paid game. Super Mario Run was the most downloaded game on Google Play in 2017.

Our next Big Indie Pitch takes place in Colchester, Essex on December 14th 2017. Submissions for entry are still open – you can find out more on the BIP website.
