Aristocrat closes $990 million Big Fish acquisition

Australian casino firm Aristocrat Leisure has completed its $990 million purchase of Big Fish Games.

The Seattle-based company has a large portfolio of mobile, PC and online titles across genres such as casual and social casino.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the purchase of Big Fish from Churchill Downs, previously announced in November 2017, was officially closed on January 10th.

Rapid mobile expansion

The deal comes just months after Aristocrat’s $500 million acquisition of mobile and browser games developer Plarium.

It means the Australian firm has spent nearly $1.5 billion on expanding its operations in the mobile games space since August 2017.

The company also owns social casino outfit Product Madness, which it acquired for $10.6 million in 2012.

“The strategic and financial benefits of this acquisition are highly compelling,” said Aristocrat CEO Trevor Croker.

“Big Fish will immediately provide scale across our entire digital platform, and our social casino business will become the second largest social casino publisher globally.

“Big Fish’s digital-first social casino content and industry leading meta-game capability and applications are highly complementary to Aristocrat’s existing and industry-leading land based digital content business.”

The huge deals come as social casino apps are storming the app stores and rising up the grossing charts.
