Sony blocks Fortnite cross-play between PS4 and Nintendo Switch

Sony has blocked Fortnite's cross-play functionality between PS4 and Nintendo Switch following its launch on the latter platform yesterday.

When asked over the matter, Epic Games PR Nick Chester confirmed to The Verge on Twitter that the Switch version of Fortnite would still support cross-play between mobile, PC, Mac and Xbox One.

The block on cross-play functionality also means that players who have signed into their accounts on a PlayStation 4 will not be able to use it on other console platforms.

Blocking the bus

Fortnite Battle Royale was revealed for Switch during Nintendo Direct at E3 2018 and went live on the eShop an hour later.

Speculation had built in the weeks leading up to the reveal after the game appeared on the Korean Games Rating Board’s website.

A hacker also discovered code inside an eShop update last week that included its Switch home front icon alongside a mention of its name in text.

In other Fortnite news, Epic has announced some of its plans for the Fortnite World Cup set to take place in 2019.
