Beasts of Balance dev Sensible Object raises $3.2 million to back voice-capable board games

Beasts of Balance developer Sensible Object has raised $3.2 million to back its board games that makes use of Amazon Alexa’s voice functionality.

The investment was headed up by games developer NCSoft and March capital, with the Amazon Alexa fund and London Venture Partners also participating.

Sensible Object’s first effort When in Rome will launch July 2nd on Amazon in Australia, Canada, the US and the UK.

Speaking to VentureBeat, CEO Alex Fleetwood clarified that When in Rome will launch exclusively for Alexa but will be made available for Google Assistant in Q1 2019.

Do as the Romans do

When in Rome is a multiplayer game that uses Alexa to guide players through up to 20 cities through trivia questions.

"Sensible Object was founded on the belief that we can offer players the best of physical, digital and human play, and I'm very proud of the team's achievements so far," said Fleetwood.

"We're excited to be working at the cutting edge of smart home technology and voice AI with Amazon Alexa, creating a completely new kind of gameplay built around social interactions and active listening."

Following on from When In Rome's launch Sensible Object will start on the second games in the series called Voice Originals.
