Back in January, research house IDC notably debuted its bespoke tablet shipment tracker, with Apples iPad expectedly snaffling up the lions share of the market in third fiscal quarter of 2010.
With products like Motorolas Xoom, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, RIMs PlayBook, and HPs TouchPad either already in stores or primed for launch, Apples domination of this large touchscreen form factor will undoubtedly dwindle.
Of course, Amazon is one company absent from that list of tablet vendors, though, if mounting rumours are to be believed, that wont remain the case for much longer.
Touching down in August
According to speculation by DigiTimes, the manufacturer of the ultra successful Kindle eReader is preparing an Android LCD tablet powered by a Texas Instruments processor and assembled by Quanta Computer.
Previous rumours suggested it would be looking to Nvidia for its chipsets.
And after an August launch, the giant internet retailer will hope to shift four million units of the as-yet-unconfirmed device in 2011, which would presumably plug into the Amazon Appstore.
Should Jeff Bezos and co. realise that admittedly reported sales ambition, Amazon would have swallowed up ten percent of the IDC-estimated 44.6 million tablets shipped this year in barely five months.
