iPhone games firm Booyah gets $4.5m iFund investment

US iPhone developer Booyah has raised $4.5 million of Series A financing from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers' iFund, following in ngmoco's footsteps.

The company was set up by former executives from Blizzard Entertainment and Insomniac Games, and it's currently working on its first iPhone application.

It's not strictly a game, though. It's "a playful life companion that combines the immersive experiences that draw consumers to massively multi-player online games, the interconnectedness of social media, and the power of the iPhone and iPod touch."

The funding announcement says it'll be unveiled in the Spring, which means soon. Until then, founder and CEO Keith Lee isn't giving much away.

"Booyah motivates you and others through a mobile companion, everywhere you go. You become a part of an ever-expanding social experiment, inspiring you to challenge yourself and be better at your life."

Booyah's advisory board includes Blizzard Entertainment's EVP of game design Rob Pardo, and Nexon's VP of marketing Min Kim, so it's certainly not short of MMO experience.
