Photon 3 ready for future growth

Exit Games adds support for HTML5 and Windows Phone 7 to Photon networking engine
Exit Games has updated its Photon networking engine with immediate effect, adding support for both HTML5 and Windows Phone 7 client libraries in version 3.

The refreshed tech, which already supports iOS, Unity, Android, Flash and Silverlight, comes with a number of additional enhancements to its set up, including the ability to scale games across multiple server nodes and a move to integrate with Unity Networking.

Exit has also announced a fresh server to server interface, allowing operations, responses and events to be sent directly between servers, as well as a series of other under the hood upgrades.

"We always strive to make Photon the perfect network engine for both the AAA studios as well as for our huge independent community," said CTO Christof Wegmann.

"Photon 3 incorporates and condenses all our knowledge from AAA projects and makes it available and accessible to everyone.

"Now, with Photon 3, everyone can afford to build cross-platform multiplayer games that scale for tens of thousands of concurrent users."

A full rundown of the engine's features can be found on Exit Games' full Photon 3 documentation.

Developers can sign up for the platform on the firm's website, with those who purchased a license after April 1 offered a free upgrade.
